Welcome to the website for the seventh Global Forum on Nicotine – GFN 20. Once again the conference will be held at the Marriott Hotel, in Warsaw, Poland, from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 June 2020.

The theme for the conference is ‘Nicotine: science, ethics and human rights’. The science of nicotine is now extensive, although debate still endures on issues of safety and efficacy, with some believing a greater degree of certainty and proof is required, whilst others believe the prognosis is sufficient to support the adoption and use of safer nicotine products and delivery systems. In this conference we will examine advances in the science of nicotine, alongside the often complex ethical and moral arguments that are expounded, as well as considering the human rights issues that are a significant concern for consumers and those who advocate for rights to health.

GFN 20 will follow a similar structure to previous editions of the conference, comprising plenary, parallel and workshop sessions, alongside panel discussions and debates. There will also be ample time and space for informal meetings and networking, which feedback we have received from each of the events to date shows are particularly important to participants.

Previous editions of GFN have addressed ‘a different kind of endgame’, ‘evidence, accountability, transparency’, ‘reducing harm, saving lives’, ‘rethinking nicotine’ and last year ‘it’s time to talk about nicotine’. Content from these events can be found in the conference archives.

Participants in the conference are drawn from a wide range of groups, professions and disciplines. These include scientists, policy analysts, regulators and standards experts, academics and researchers, parliamentarians, public health professionals, consumer advocates, and developers, manufacturers and distributors of alternative nicotine products. Each brings a different perspective that contributes to our belief that GFN is truly ‘the only place where science and policy meet’

The fourth International Symposium on Nicotine Technology (ISoNTech) will run alongside GFN 20. This public event is structured as a ‘show and tell’ where developers and manufacturers of new devices and products can demonstrate and discuss the science and technology behind them. ISoNTech is free to attend for GFN participants. More details on ISoNTech can be found at isontech.info.

This website will provide information as the event evolves, with regular updates on the programme and speakers, information on side events associated with the conference and also information to assist your travel and stay in Warsaw.
