What is the Global Forum on Nicotine?

The GFN is the only international conference to focus on the role of safer nicotine products that help people switch from smoking. Safer nicotine products include e-cigarettes (vapes), oral tobaccos such as Swedish snus, and ‘heat-not-burn’ tobacco products. A rapidly evolving area, with many new non-combustible products emerging over the past ten to fifteen years, it’s a hot topic, with awareness and availability of safer nicotine products now higher than ever.

The rapid development and use of safer nicotine products raises a number of challenging scientific questions about safety, who uses them and why, and the impact on smoking. Governments around the world are scrambling to understand what kind of policy and regulation is appropriate. The GFN examines the rapidly developing science in relation to nicotine and its use, including policy and regulatory responses.

It’s the only conference which brings together people from all sides of the debate. Unique among conferences on nicotine and smoking, we ensure that consumer and consumer advocacy organisations take part, as well as researchers, academics, public health specialists, scientists, medics, industry specialists and manufacturers.

In 2019 the GFN is taking place in Warsaw, Poland, from 13 – 15 June. The conference theme is ‘It’s time to talk about nicotine’. The event will examine how attitudes towards the use of nicotine are changing.
